This is an alligator purse made in Cuba. It is well used but still in usable condition. People are actually startled by it. It may be fifty years old or more. It had to be before alligator was outlawed. The strap is somewhat worn but the purse is lovely. I don't know if the initials are the maker or the owner. I would like to know more about it.

I have had this purse many years. I got it at a sale in Miami, FL. The alligator looks ready to bite. It is so strange that it has a head and legs still. The strap is worn but still usable. If you know anything about the maker let me know.

These purses were popular in 50's . Here is one like yours . I suspect the initials are the owners on your bag .
Hope this helps . Love it . I have one also and just keep to pass along and preserve .

Thank you Thriftfan. Thank you too Manikin. Your purse is made just like mine except for the strap. Isn't it odd for a purse to have feet and a head? Manikin does yours have a maker's label? Did you buy it in a store?

Jen mine was made in cuba also . They are odd but remember at the time women wore fox stoles with their heads still on and the mouth of dead fox opened to clasp it together . Yuck right by your face a Fox's head .

I've seen the fox stoles! I was afraid of them when I was a kid. They are a little gruesome but the fur itself was beautiful. I carry my purse and some people actually move away from it when I stand in line.

I guess it is the purse to take out on Black Friday shopping to clear the way so your not crushed in a crowd :-). I use mine and I just figure I like it , I did not hurt the alligator and I just kind of go with what I like and is unusual . Love it !

I have one (just like it) owned by my grandmother. Likely 50's and most likely from Florida, where she loved to vacation. It is perhaps a bit lighter in colour; more red-brown. Fun!
