I have a watch case that I know nothing about. I believe it is silver because there is no wear like a moon and star trademark case I have that is brass and worn.
The inscription inside says A.W. Co. Patt App 1779 and the serial number 13180. I do understand Patent applied does not mean the year is was made but I assume the serial number would indicate that if one had a book to go by.
Please let me know what information you have by emailing kevin@inspecttexas.com.
Thank You!

Made by American Waltham Co. between 1858-59. You say it is case only? Are there any markings inside the case?

I did not see any markings other than what can be seen in the photo.
I have an old Elgin 18 size pocket watch that has serial number 8996956 on the works, It is housed in a A. W. Watch co. Case. The case number stamped in two places in 91186. Here is my problem. I have found that the watch was made in 1899 according to charts. I have not determined when or where the case was made. However this watch Ford MODEL T inscribed on the face. Henry Ford started producing the Model T in the year 1908 through 1927. How could these dates and numbers possibly connect?? any input will be appreciated by this poster. I have pictures I can email starvnmarvin@yahoo.com
