Love it Walksoft ~ That was hard work for them . Our old farm had a dirt floor and a big coal bin , I even crawled into that and slid down the pile of coal . Great Memories we are lucky to have :-) Your house back then looks like ours did.

Manikin did you get into trouble for sliding down the coal pile, you must have gotten filthy.
Thanks Manikin, packrat, tim, vans, & kerry

LOL oh I sure did walksoft :-) I would be covered in black soot and drag it into house . I was a curious one . I liked to watch how things worked and I was happy to clean the barn and sprinkle lime on floor so it was white for a minute . Work was hard but I never saw it that way it was an adventure every day . I did get in trouble for wading in cows trough for water it was big and deep I thought I could swim in it . Now I think yuck but not then .

      Thanks for the comment Phil.
My Grandparents & their children spent the depression moving from one rented farm to another, it was hard times, but they still had it better then some families. In 1941 they went looking for a farm that they could call their own, this one needed a lot of work so the price was right. Within a few years the farm had become very productive and by the end of the War they were able to buy two new tractors, one for Grandpa & one for Dad.
What part of Saskatchewan are you from, the south was hit so hard in the 30's?

My Grandfather didn't build it, but he did add onto it, by lifting it and putting it on a proper foundation he ensured it's long term survival. The original house (piece to the right side of first pic was built apx. 1898. The second section in the middle was added apx. 1920. The summer kitchen, left section was added in the late 20's, it was removed when the house was lifted & a better built piece was added on at that time. We moved in, in 1982 & added on to it in 1985, we are proud to live in a house with so much history. We have done plenty of renovations in the thirty years that we have lived here & it is as energy efficient as a modern home, it has to be with our Manitoba winters. It's minus 20 degrees C this AM as I write this.

Thanks for the love musikchoo, a little fun makes the hard work a little easier & the day shorter.
I still marvel at how hard my Grandfather worked to provide his family with a place they could call their own.
