A dear friend of mine bought this doll for me, thinking it was the doll I had as a child. The Thumbelina doll I had was very small, this one is full size and has a mechanism in he back that allows the doll to move. Does anyone know about the small vversion I had? It would have been made in the late 50's or early 1960's?

Thumbelina Doll by Ideal toy company was made in several sizes. They are marked on back of neck Ideal and OTT-14 a 14 inch size or OTT 16 that would be a 16 inch doll . What size is one you have posted her neck will tell OTT and next number how big she is . They all came with a wind up mechanism that made them squirm and move and many times knobs are missing or they don't work but you can find any size on ebay . Do you remember what size yours was ? There even was about a 9 inch bitty baby . Love her !!!!!

Thank you for the information. That's confusing, because her head says OTT-9, but she is either 14" or 16", if you measure from head to toe. The one I loved was the 9" . If anyone knows of sizes, and the dates of manufacture, I would love to know. My childhood was a blurr, and this was the one doll I remember.

The one you have is wearing the 19" size original clothes . Ideal made the dolls starting in 1960 -62 they reissued them in 80's for a short time . The 9 " is called the Newborn here is link . This is newborn but Thumbelina had a sister too she was 10 inches tall .

I am sure the one you have posted is 19 inch . The one is just hard for you to see but it would be OTT-19 maybe the stamp did not press hard enough for one to show clear .

1961-1970's Thumbelina, 9, 14, 16, or 20" tall, Newborn, Tiny or Toddler, vinyl and cloth doll, painted eyes, rooted hair, wind key in back makes the head and body wiggle like a real baby, various markings the 16" doll head is marked: Ideal Toy Corp. OTT-16. That is full story on them . The tiny thumbelina was 14 in . So it had to be newborn you had or the 10 in sister . Hope this all answers your questions

Manikin, Thank you for all your help. I finally determined the doll I have is the 20" Thumbelina and was made in the late 60's. I am placing it on EBay for sale, and am still looking for newborn Thumbelina 1961. I regret it has taken so long to return reply. I have had health issues. Thank you again for sharing all your information and experience. Janet
