I found this at a garage sale & thought it was interesting. Have no idea what it was used for. Made by Display Material Company St. Paul Minn. Has a patent date Feburary 15th 1926. Inside the drawer are about 30 stencils, 3 jars of ink pads, brush & elliott's addressing ink.
It is approx. 2'feet across 15" deep 8" high.
Any information would be GREATLY appreciated
Please help me with this item.
This is a kit for making store signs. The sheets with the letters are Stencils. each is a different style, or typeface. Looking at the box you can see there is a ruler, that is to help place the stencil in the proper place to make the words for the sign.
Back in 1920s-40s stores would have small signs to let customers know the prices, such as 1 dozen eggs for 25 cents. There were artist that made these signs (called Showcard Painters). Small shops that could not afford to pay a painter could buy a Stencil set like yours and have an employee make signs. Make sense? Have a Happy Holiday and Good Luck.
Are they worth anything in todays market?
