The beautiful design of the Astatic 77.
Interesting fact: I've seen some people think that the model of this mic is "77A", since the Astatic logo is next to the 77.

I'm now watching a few of these on ebay... They ain't cheap! Seems like I'm looking at several hundred dollars for anything nice. What would you say would be a good "starter" piece for someone looking to put together a collection of vintage mics? I sing so I'm thinking of using them as well as collecting them.

You're absolutely right! Some sellers are really putting the prices up there...even when the mic isn't worth that much, so be careful. Finding a mic in good shape cosmetically is a challenge. Finding one that works as sounds good as well, is even harder. If you want to spend around $300.00, try to find a Shure 55 (or 555, 556). They sound really good. Now, if your budget is around $150.00-$200.00, try mics like the Turner 33, Electro-Voice 664 or 636 or 611, and Shure 51. They're not as good as the Shure 55, but they're not bad either. Just make sure it's working.
Here's one that might interest you. It looks really good and it works!

I'd probably buy it, if I didn't already have 3 of them!

Toolate2, this is another one that is really worth watching, the Turner 34x. They rarely come up on Ebay in such good shape. But I must warn you that the crystal element that comes with it isn't that good. Oh, and you can count on the final price going up to around $150-$200.

Thanks! Both of these are amazing looking but what you're saying is the Turner 33x is better sounding?

Between the two, I think that the Turner 33x might sound better. But I'm not a singer, I just test my mics when I buy them, so I'm not really an expert when it comes to sound quality. If this helps, one of my Turner 33x came with a vintage Shure element someone put in, and I didn't see much difference when I compared to another one with the original element.

I also found the Astatic 77 being sold. But this one might go higher than the Turner 34x. Actually, the Turner 34x might not go that high, because the seller did not put the word VINTAGE on the item name. A lot of people search for "vintage microphones" and end up missing out on other mics that don't appear on the search.

I just acquired an astatic 77A microphone. It has no cord. Does anyone know the name of the connector or wishes to sell a cord to fit this beautiful microphone?
