Just bought this chair today...they claim it's really old, didn't know an exact date on it. I hope I didn't pay too much. Anybody know about barber chairs? I'm beginning to wonder if it is a barber chair. There's a metal bracket on the side that slides up, almost as if I tray would afix to it.
It looks like it may be a 'khoken' brand chair- although im unsure because alot of older Khoken chairs are more ornate, with cast filigrees and such, I would guess in the 1940-5s ish maybe? Really not too sure on the year... just basing my guesstimates from my research on mine. (I have a 1932 completely restored Khoken chair with corking lifts etc... its appraised at $4200)
If you lift the seat cushion, on the base underneath it should have a serial number dating it to its manufacture. Hope this helps!
Hey darkknits! Thank you for the information, the only number I saw on it was 1806. It's been reupholstered, so I'm not sure where I should be looking
And I think it has an 806 on the bottom of the foot rest
Don't think it is Koken. They usually have the head rest that he invented and porcelain arm rests. And the leg rest would have been more ornate with the Koken name. This is as darkknits said, 50's style chair for sure.I would have paid $1500.00 tops for this chair.
I only paid $200. It's got a spot where it looks as though another footrest attached, cause there's two holes that look like poles would slide into. I'm gonna have to take better pics.
Love the chair and Charlie!!!!!
What can I say, Charlie needed a chair!
