We just discovered this set in my Mother-in-law's belongings. My wife suspects it belonged to her Grandfather who died around 1980. We have no intention of ever selling but would like to know as much information as possible about the set to include age, model, and value.

The pencil still has the original sticker on it that says, "Silver Imp. Pencil $20.00"

It looks like the - Sheaffer Imperial Sterling TD Fountain Pen, M nib, 1970 ($150) - that I saw on E-Bay. It differs in one respect, namely - the base (the end-part of the pen that points up when you write). There could be two very similar pens from Scheaffer that look very much alike - one from 1970 and another - perhaps earlier model upon which the later one is based.

I agree with Gregory except that this model is not the TD (Touchdown). The TD has a sophisticated filling system identifiable by the presence of a "blind cap" at the end of the barrel. The barrel of your pen is all one piece, so your pen instead takes a Sheaffer ink cartridge or can be fitted with a Sheaffer squeeze converter. Either of these is installed by unscrewing the "section" (part that holds the nib) from the barrel. The value is about $100 if it's in excellent condition.
