Does anyone know anything about these?

I bought these at an auction and were told they were mother of pearl but they are plactic made to look like mother of pearl. They are older I was told and in their original box. I bought them to make jewelry but that's when they were MOP, they are lovely but plastic. I sure would like to know something true about them.
