    (120 items)

As i said before my dad has a buddy who used to collect coca cola and is now selling off his collection. he had some pre 1915 bottles i was interested in tried to buy them off him days ago but he thought he could get a better offer on them on ebay. days later after the auction finally ended i was able to win all 5 of the bottles i was interested in ( i guess my offers were good lol ). i now have them displayed on my shelf with the rest of my old coca cola bottles. i was able to find most of the bottles i just got in pets book, but was unable to find two of them. one is not really a coca cola bottle ( the LUM bottle) just made by coca cola, the other is diamond embossed Fargo north dakota bottle. was wondering if anyone one knew anything about these two bottles an approx value would be great.

Thanks Tom, Peter i was hoping you had some info on the two bottles i was wondering about. like how long was LUM products made and what year you think my two bottles are from and approx value would be great.

The bottles you are referring to likely date from the 40's - the 60's. I have never heard of LUM but it probably was the initials of the owner of the bottling plant and it contained flavors such as orange or grape. I have known of other brands named in a similar manner. Value probably 25 dollars. The diamond embossed bottle is a similar flavor bottle, but because of its unique design is probably worth about 50-60.

Thanks Blaine, I thought they were pre 1915 bottles, they have the thick style glass and seems on both sides.

They certainly could be, but I think that most flavor bottles date from about the 1930's on. Prior to the 20's standards, bottling was such a "by the seat of ones pants" type of operation that things were put in many different bottles, many with simple paper labels. When the bottlers got more successful they were able to purchase specially embossed bottles.

I have a question for anyone that knows is it okay to clean bottles? i know when it comes to coins or guns you dont clean them, but is bottles okay to clean? picture 3 shows 5 bottles one has been cleaned the other four left alone, does cleaning the bottle increase or decrease value of it?

A little bit of sand and water, plus a good shake usually works for me when cleaning bottles. I don't see why cleaning them would effect the value, just makes them look nice. Nice collection btw. I love the syrup bottle! I rarely see them anymore.

Thanks spriteboy42 the syrup bottle cost me 10$, i wish it still had the full label tho.

Wow, which bottle is the oldest?
    12. coke.trevor.cola coke.trevor.cola, 13 years ago
Hard to say the bottles with coca-cola written in the middle are usually older than the bottles with coca-cola written near the top, so im thinking one of those bottles.
    13. Benking, 13 years ago
None of the firsts were written under?

answer to your question on spriteboys post, coca cola bottles were made around 1894, before than coke was only sold at the fountain. they used the hutchinson bottles, they made about 10 different hutch bottles, they were only made from 1894 to early 1900's. after the hutch bottles they switched to the straight sided bottles which coca cola used from 1905-1915.

      Thanks very much CokeTrevor!

Hutchinson bottles had Coke embossed on it?
    16. coke.trevor.cola coke.trevor.cola, 13 years ago
Picture 4 bottle in the middle is my only repo bottle. its an example of a hutchinson bottle, if it was original it would be worth thousands.

check my newest post i just took a picture of the hutch coke bottles in my book

"LUM" = Lumberton, N.C. The abbreviation is also used on a scarce Hobble-skirt. Your flavor bottle is not valuable, as far as I know. The Fargo is pretty and would be sought after by "Deco" collectors. It could be scarce too. Check the dates on these. You might find they are more recent than you might think. I like your display but look out for those glass shelves! What cities are the hobble-skirts? (I display mine base outward so I can see the city-state abbreviations...) nyway it looks great!

While I'm at it- just a word on Hutch bottles. The Biedenharn Candy Co. Hutch is traditionally dated to 1894 and later. Some may be thet early, but note that many survivors are "ROOT" bottles which can be dated to 1904 and later. (And Root only started business late in 1901) Other script Hutch types are not earlier than 1904, and 2, the Jasper, ALA and the Bessemer, Ala. can only have been ordered in 1907, when those plants started in business! One block letter Hutch- the Chattanooga, MIGHT be earlier than 1904, since it was made by DIXIE (1896-1906+/-) and ordered by the Chatt. plant which was the first and started in Nov. / Dec., 1899. But NO "Coca-Cola" Huch, block or script, can possible be from before Dec. 1899.
