Another unsolved mystery: Can someone tell me exactly what this is and what this was used for? The glass in front is very thick. It appears to be brass. Measures about 6" tall approximately. I would love to know what it was used for and about how old it may be. I assume that it is some type of lamp or light. It has a place in back to attach to something.
    Thank you!

There is a clip at the bottom of the lens. Depress it and lift the cover up. What does the plate say ?

Thank you for your advise. We have had this little light for years and I had forgotten that it opened. I have done that and it says:
      NonPareil~King 0f the Road Pattern~A.G. Spaulding & Bros.~New York~Chicago~Philadelphia
This is evidently a small container for fuel.

Looks like a very early auto headlight to me.

I believe it is a lamp to be mounted on a boat and/or carried by hand. There would be a tall beam that the lantern would be tighten too and the raised to a height above the bow. Are there slip sockets of the side for metal reflectors?

This is a Bicycle lamp approx 1890's, with only the cooling plate left above the heat extraction /chimney hole. The top cover which goes over the chimney cooling plate has been removed. This cover generally had a small plate on the front of it with the makers name, the name or model of the lamp & maybe patent/manufacture date
