This clip-on brooch belonged to one of my parents. The backing is probably brass, but I'm not sure. The front feels like glass or enamel.

Both of my parents are gone now and this pin has been in my family for at least 60 years. I don't have any idea where it came from or what the crest represents. Any information would be helpful.

The eagle is so lacking in detail that I would guess it to be just a piece of costume jewelry. The marking looks to be English and not made of any kind of precious metal

Hello I would say it is a pretty item of costume jewellery, looks to me like one of a pair of cufflinks judging by the clasp.

      Or maybe a tie clip.

Wow, you folks are wonderful to help me out with your base of knowledge. If only the piece could talk, then we'd know for sure!!! By the way, my grandmother came from Romania and my grandfather from the Crimean peninsula in Ukraine. Thanks again for the information!!!

Austrian name "Unterberg" stamped on the back and the fact that Austria did use the Double Headed Eagle in their Imperial Seal prior to WWI. Tie Clasp as one, but I think you're missing the second one for collar clip decoration uniform decoration used as cuffs or collar decor, not a metal or award, but part of a decoration. They did use the double headed eagle, safe to say mixed metal, mostly brass.

Is it not Canterbury stamped on the back?
    10. WildFlour, 11 years ago
Unterberg in Austria, Canterbury would be English
