I would like to share my latest project. This is a HOWE C1882 hardware store scale, model 5040. These were used in hardware stores to weigh out nails, etc., back when you bought them by the pound. You just weighed them out and poured them into the bag. I remember when I was a kid back in the 50's, Soukup's Hardware Store having wooden bin after bin of nails. Hardware stores were always fun and mysterious when I was a kid. I love the deep red color and the original gold colored graphics.
Many times when you find these, the scoop is dented or bent. Being the shape they are, they are subject to bending if misused. Once they are bent, it is hard to get the correct shape back, and they do not fit the cradle anymore. This scoop is in excellent condition.
This unit also comes with four weights, 2, 4, 6, and 8 lbs, which I also have.
Note the condition of the brass weight bar. This is not one of the rarer HOWE scales, but, a nice one all the same.
I hope you enjoy this and it brings back some memories of a bygone time.
Thank you very much officialfuel, bratjdd, walksoftly & sanhardin.
Thank you BELLIN68 & PhilDavidAlexanderMorris for the nice comments. The condition is really amazing for being 130 years old.
Thank you very much pickingupbones
