Could someone help me identify this please? It is a hat pin that belonged to my Great Grandmother. Our family originated in Germany , but there were connections with England. We believe she used in between 1860- 1890. We know she had it in 1890's. The head appears to be made of brass or copper and the jewels/stones/ glass (?) are no longer in place. A family member recollects that the stones were amber or amber colour, but she is not certain in her memory. The pin section is just under 3" and the whole hat pin measures about 3 1/2 "
Are you able to help me with the date? manufacturer? style? Anything that would assist us in desribing it to our child who is inquiring about this "family heirloom". Thank you very much.

Try contacting this site. They are the most probable place to be able to help you. If you read the history of hat pins there is little mention of Germany. The majority of information from the time hat pins were invented centers around England and imports to England from France. The first machine to make them was right here in the USA in 1832. Big brother was watching also because the U.S. passed a law way back then (1910) that the tip of the pin must be covered to prevent injury to others. We have three or four but they are newer with the required tip covers. They are a fun item to collect as you find them and have a limited budget.
