I bought this French engraving thirty years ago in a store full of ancient lithos and engravings behind the Notre Dame Church. I wish I could have bought them all, but I bought a few. This is the Gustave Dore etching for Dante's Commedia Del Art(?), the Inferno, this picture is called , Inferno Canto # 5, called "The Unfortunate Love of Paolo and Francesca". It was engraved by Pannemaker, which doesn't show well in the photo, but is very clear. Pannemaker died about 1900. There is a # 15 under the Pannemaker name, on the border, I have no idea what that refers to. This is one of those pieces of art that you buy for it's beauty, and find out later about just what it is. Well, I am at that point. Are there any collectors who can tell me about this old Pannemaker/Dore engaving? Thank you for you time and assistance, Michelle Amieux

If it were me, I'd contact a fine art appraiser. There are just so many details that would only be noticed by a professional. It's a beautiful print, by the way- a real treasure.

I believe all the engravings I got were about fifty cents a piece. I was in the store for hours. I will post some of the other pieces from that amazing little church store. Thank you for your kind words, michelle

Thanks Scott, I will take photos, it might take a couple of posts. The Japanese were very strict on how many words and what was allowed to be said, but these letters to a Mother are amazing. My friend, Elwood Smith(RIP), was captured early, at Wake Island. Though his wrists and ankles were broken many times, the letters make it seem like all is hunky-dory. Fascinating bit of Japanese propaganda, as well. They are posted from Shanghai, and seem to have gone through the French Consulate or Embassy(?), The envelopes are very interesting in and of themselves, all the forwarding addresses. I appreciate your comments, Scott, and will get those up soon. Thank you, Michelle Amieux
