This is a precious little thing. I bought it a few years ago, have it standing on a shelf in my bedroom
and though it is surrounded by a number of other interesting finds,
my eyes always linger a little longer on this.
The cup is about 3 inches high, is made of either paper or leather,( what's more likely ?), and is hand-painted with a beautiful group of figures within a black line interior.
What exactly is it do you think?, some type of mortar and pestle, but for what?, and how old would you guess it is?
Thanks for giving it a look,
    XO

In Daoism, tea, rice and water are put in cups in front of the altar. Could be a Daoism cup. The mortar was used to make a a workable paste. Has great age; nice piece.

Thank You for all the comments, I'm happy to hear this lovely little thing getting it's due of attention:)
Scandinavian Pieces, the wood piece inside is a simple pestle, it came with it.
The brush pot idea is a good one and would be possible if it was indeed leather, Thanks!
and Papa, your comment makes a lot of sense,.....I'm thinking you may be correct!, as it could be a 'tea room' scene depicted around the outside. Thank You!!!
