I found this at a Thrift Store today and can't identify the marking. It's a "W" or an "M" in a half circle (disregard the magic marker mark on it - that's from the thrift store and I need to wash that off). It almost seems like the Merkelbach marking with the R in front of it. It stand about 10 inches tall and about 8 inches wide including the handle. I believe that's Father Christmas on the front, but I'm not even sure of that... Any info/help/thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

You asked for thoughts, so I'll just throw this one out: generally Ms have straight sides and Ws have angled sides. Yours has angled sides, and is also under the number, indicating, in my mind, that it's a W. But that's just a thought. I have no clue about German pottery of any kind.

It may be too late for your needs but maybe someone else later will find this response helpful. I just came across a stein with the same markings & after reading stefdesign's comment, realized that it's a C with a W inside it. From there I found that it's made by Werner Corzelius. Check out this link for more information (looks like a great stein marks resource for bookmarking): http://www.steinmarks.co.uk/pages/pv.asp?p=stein344

the mark is "Werner Corzelius" starting in 1954. (www.corzelius-keramik.de) The name of the jug is „Bartmann“. The face is supposed to keep evil spirits away from the content of the jug. More information on the following link (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bartmann_jug). The company produced this jug in the last century from 1960 to 1980. estimated value at around 80€ (8\2020)
