This is a Northwestern Super 60 gumball machine I have themed to Indian Motorcycle. I think it turned out great. Am really happy with it. It is a quarter machine and is set to dispense bulk candy or could be used for gumballs. I think I may put hot tamales in this one!

      To each his own!

While I wouldn't do this to a machine, if you use it and enjoy that is GREAT.

      Thanks for sharing your project.

fifties50s to some extent I agree, but on many occasions I think that "themes" can be done really well. If for instance I collect Coca Cola items or Pepsi, or Star Trek, or Spiderman, whatever the case may be, why wouldnt I want to have a gumball machine themed to match. I think if done tastefully that themed items can "add" to a collection. Especially in the case of a machine like this super 60, these machines are not very rare (were and still are real workhorses in vending) and didnt really have great amount of pizazz to them. I currently have 3 of them.

I fully agree that on certain items not restoring them to original may lessen their value, but its not always about value, sometimes its just about what the individual "likes". I do have for instance a more rare old double nugget machine that I wouldnt dare want to be any way other than original. http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/45176-double-nugget-fully-restored?in=user
Also have a classic Ford gumball machine on which I just cleaned and polished it (wouldnt seem right to do it in a theme) Same goes for an old full glass globe Atlas Master I have.

Regardless I respect your opinion and I just accept that there are people with different likes and dislikes but with passion about their "stuff"! :)

Nice machine, Theme away buddy. I've been doing it for yrs and making quite a nice profit on them. I mostly do the 50's, 60's N.W. too but I make more on the Acorn machines I do. I just restored a Victor universal machine in a Coca Cola theme and sold it for $780.00. Paid $75.00 for it. I do about 4 machines a month. Nice hobby, and lots of fun. I do have quite a few machines of all kinds in my collection. Theming machines has been the way to go for the last 5yrs. or so. themed machines draw in collectors of machines, different soda.gas and oil, bikes and even the military. Good luck if you do any more. To each his own.

thanks phillys57, I have been working on several machines and have been having a GREAT time doing it. I am actually getting ready to put my first couple of Coca Cola themed machines on eBay this week, one is a NW 60 with glass globe, and one is a Victor half cabinet (nice machine I love this one and may have a hard time letting it go) I have 4 Oak Acorns I am working on, two of which I am keeping and 2 of which I will be selling. You are right it is a great hobby and can make a few extra $$ at it, that sure doesnt hurt for doing something you enjoy.

      Thanks for the comment

I think it's a great idea, I definitly agree with phillys57, it draws in collectors that would never buy this type of item if it were plain, for someone that has a collection of motorcycles in their man cave, this machine would look awesome in it!
