I bought this bank of brass post office boxes at an antique show. I was able to successfully reverse engineer the combinations using a technique described to me by a very old locksmith in the Mission. Perfect for wine storage.

This is very cool! I love the comment about reverse engineering the combinations using a technique described by a very old locksmith. Are you sure he was really a locksmith and not someone who reverse engineered combinations found in banks?

It was a locksmith... actually two twin brothers in their 70s/80s who have an old cluttered hardware store called Workingman's headquarters (http://www.yelp.com/biz/workingmans-headquarters-san-francisco) with an extensive lock and key operation. Spending a half hour there was definitely a key part of the experience, no pun intended. Dave

I would love to find one this intact. I find them in blocks of 4 or 5.

Why is it that you always manage to find such neat postal stuff and I can't even find one door at an auction? I guess you are just lucky have you ever tried your luck at a casino?

I have one with the number 1 thru 150. It has the eagle on front. Only 2-3 are missing the numbers. Can you tell me approximately what you paid for yours. thank you. A retired postal worker.
