My husband got this plane when he was 10 years old (he's 60 now, so you can do the math). It is battery operated and it will fire up the propellors, then it will taxi, stop, props shut down, side door opens so the passengers (if you look closely in the windows you can see them sitting there) can disembark. It takes 3-D batteries. Our son who is now in his 30's loved to play with this plane and it still hangs in his old room.

I saw one just like yours but not in as good as shape at a little antique toy store here in salt lake. Had a price of $295.00! What a great piece you have!!!
