I was surprised to find these American Made Watercolor Paint Blocks
from 19th century but have not found any information on the maker anywhere. What date was it made? And what is the history of the maker?

They are marked A P HOMER PHILA. (Philadelphia)
Other side is a shield with branch of leafs.

Shown are a couple of partial blocks and 2 nearly complete blocks which measue about 1 inch by 3/4 inch. The photo enlarged for detail

This history of early American artist paint makers has not been compiled so any information on this company or others of the early 19th century would be greatly appreciated.

I am trying to put togather all the information that can be found in a time-line that is usefull for collectors and for Museums to not only date the materials but the paintings made from them- very critical to authentification of art as well.

    Thank you.
