Platolene 500 porcelain gas sign that I found in southern Indiana today, it's 6 foot in diameter and has the steel ring around it. Before today, I had never heard of this type of gas, from my research they were established in 1957 in Terre Haute, Indiana and are still in business today. It does have some condition issues, so it's probably going to be an outside sign. Thanks for looking!
Nice sign! I've never seen or heard of it before. Thanks for sharing.
Cool sighn,must be rare.
That's a nice sign!! A nice scrubbing and waxing will shine it nice, is it double sided?
Thanks trey, I believe it's a rare sign, I ve never seen one or heard of this brand.
Thanks tommy1002, yes it's double sided, I will probably buff it it out once we decide where it's going to go.
Thanks for the info MMM, if i stumble across a pole, definitely a possibility, but may just knock the rust off and put it under the over hang on my barn.
Chevy, if you want to put it on my wall until you find a spot, I wouldn't mind!!!
I hope you have a large space on your wall, this sign is very heavy with the steel around it, if I hang this thing on the wall, the wall may come crashing down. Lol
luv the colors & the "ribbon" logo.
My Grandfather had a service station in the late 1950s, Kelleys Platolene 500, in Owensville, IN. Would loved to find some of the original memorabilia.
