This Salesman Sample case belonged to an employee of the Lincoln Oil Company of Cleveland Ohio. I believe the age to be circa 1915 - 1923. Lincoln Oil was bought by Ohio Oil in 1924. Ohio Oil is now the Marathon Oil Company, still in business today.
It contains 22 bottles of various oil samples. Six are empty, maybe the top sellers. Several labels are clear, some oil soaked and a few have handwritten descriptions of the contents. All corners of the case have metal tips and the leather handles seem to be original. I would appreciate and welcome any information about the case, it's exact age and/or the Lincoln Oil Company. I wrote the media department and will be receiving a history book of the Marathon Oil company, with some information on Lincoln Oil. I hope you enjoy this.
This is a nice salesman sample case, what makes this special is the Lincoln Oil Company, probably not too many of these around. I have a salesman sample case just like this one, only in the Standard Oil theme, it's smaller and much easier to carry. I will post mine probably tomorrow. These cases are probably out of the 20's or 30's. Thanks for sharing!

Very nice! I would suggest that the vials on the lower part of the case are upside down, as it seems to me that you'd want all the corked tops pointing upwards when the case is closed and being carried around! Although I can see why maybe you've positioned then the way you have for display purposes.
Thanks for the comment on the position of the vials. The wooden piece they are mounted to is loose, so I imagine it was turned around by the previous owner. I was storing this flat, but will now make the adjustment and store it upright.

It looks to me that the tray (wooden piece) is probably in the right position -- based on the location of the metal clips -- just needs each individual vial to be spun around.
