Normally I'am not so interested in faceted glass, but I was amazed by this object when I saw it the first time. It's an icon of GDR design made by Marita Voigt for Harzkristall in the early Seventies. It's difficult not to see this explosion of space by the lense facets as a - conscious or inconscious - commentary about the narrowness and sadness of the GDR in this period. It's 22 cm high and exists in different sizes and colors. Marita Voigt still works as a glass sculptor (a genre which unfortunately doesn't interest me very much) and has a website: http://glasstudio-m-voigt.de/ She was very young when she designed this vase. It's not so known that not only Czechoslawakia but also the GDR hat very good glass artists like Albin Schadel (look at these obejcts http://j.mp/albinschaedel ) or Volkhard Precht.
I love this one. Always thought of getting one even if it woudn't fit perfectly in my collection :)
@austrohungaro Do you have the same problems with faceted glass? Or why do you say that it wouldn't fit in?
Season's Greetings to you and Yours, cobaltcobold!
Unusual and fascinating! I have seen similar design and the same techniuque by Gunnar Ander at Lindshammar-Sweden, a little vase sold online by auction a month ago, probably from the 1960s.
@rebessin, thank you. Would like to see a picture.
