Hello All,
I picked this up the other day at a shop in Buzzards Bay.
It was sitting on the top shelf against a white background and captured my attention.
The yellow color was accentuated by the optic bands, beautiful and unusual.
It's nice and clear and has a 'Made in Sweden' sticker on the bottom, and it's 8 inches high
But who do you suppose made it?
and what do you think of it?

It might be Bergh Kristall Kosta.
But I reckon austrohungaro will know for sure.
I know he has two similar vases by Holmegaard, but they are Danish.

Whitefriars did a similar group too!
They are part of a group of 'optik' experiments that Edvard Hald did in 1930 at Orrefors and Andries Dirk Copier did at Leerdam around 1927.
I wish I could help here. The vase is great!
Also Wilhelm Wagenfeld used horizontal optic mould in ball vases, and Lidstrand did as well in the 1930s... By the way, the colours does remind me of this one: http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/41546-vases-per-ltken-holmegaard-ca-1950?in=445

Did you ever get an identification on this? On Wednesday, I found the twin to it mixed in with some Scandinavian glass. It was IDed as a "pilsner" glass, ha ha.

I got a chuckle to hear that it was ID'd as a Pilsener glass.

I did some further research, and the name of 1930s designer Ellis Berg of Kosta appeared.
I also found a mold impression on mine. Below are some images of my vase:

Addendum: the designer is Ellis BergH. Now that I look harder, our pieces seem to be slightly different. With mine, the base starts at dark amber, and graduates to a very light yellow at the top. Also, the bottom fourth ring is less defined.
The thanks go to you. Without your entry, I wouldn't know anything about my own piece. I just started buying crystal pieces a month ago. Before that, my main glass purchase criteria were "will it hold alcohol" and "will it cut my lip when I drink out of it". Google search is out friend. I just learned LAST NIGHT that the better Kosta pieces are etched on the bottom with a date and production number.
Well Mythos, you're certainly a quick study. It took me months to learn what you've learned in a couple of days,( and I learned it from You! ), Thanks again.

Hey Mythos, very nice piece. I think that these ribbed glass pieces are just beautiful.
I have a large Tiffin vase with an etched and gold leafed cabbage rose on the front that is just incredible. I'd never really noticed ribbed glass as an art glass category before then. Actually, I have the Tiffin piece posted on this site if you have a chance to look. It's a lot more impressive than the photos, large, with a beautiful shape.

Well, a sad end to my story. I just discovered my piece is actually a tumbler made by Libbey. It is the "Ripple" pattern, which was made from 1950-1957. A pitcher was made in the same design. So, a beer glass it is.
very similar to Libbey Ripple, however Libbey tumblers would most likely have the safety edge and appears to also have more of an angled slope.
Budek's appears to be a proper Swedish art-glass vase. *Mine* however was misidentified, and was probably used for iced tea sixty years ago. The "L" mold impression gave it away. It's probably a knock-off from the various excellent Scandinavian designs. The two glasses of mine I thought were Nuutajärvi appear to be Libbey KOs as well.

and Mythos, yours is a lovely piece. I didn't know that Libbey had the similar ripple design, in fact, I didn't know about optic glass until I found my vase.
