Another item handed down by my uncle. A silver memorial (mourning) coin. Dated 1870-1930. Has bust of Von Bismarck, Von Roon, & Von Moltke. All German military leaders wearning the Iron Cross. Don't know the country of issue and have not seen another. Marked on edge 82.5 silver Thanks and enjoy.
This is a medal issued in Germany commemorating the 60th aniversary of the Franco Prussian War. The medal would also have the mint name on the edge.
Thanks again Militirist. You are a walking history book. Marked munzamt wien. Also a defect at the point where it must have hung on a chain. Probably was lost and found by uncle. Thanks again
Thanks, no I am not a book but I used to help write them and am working on another one which will be self published.
Your medal was made by the Vienna Mint!!!! Totally unknown me. I have never seen one made by a non-German mint but I must admit that I haven't seen too many. Sales must have been very good if the Germans producing this medal had to farm out some of the work across the border. There was also a bronze version and it does not have a mint name on the edge. By the way this sort of medal was usually a private effort that contracted the mint to produce the medals. The mount marks on your medal are not offical as these medals were not issued with any kind of suspension.
Thanks Millatirist for the additional info. You are giving me info I would have never received from research on my own
