I sat in the this chair while I waited for my wife at a rummage sale. It was incredibly comfortable and unique so we bought it. I think it's all original, but it looks like the wood has been refinished. There are no name plates or other distinguishing marks on it. I am wondering if anybody has any information about. I have never seen another like this.
The original platform rocking chair post is 11-12 years old, but I'm interested in continuing the post. I have 2 antique rocking chairs that were my great-grandmothers. One is a small cherry platform rocker and the other, almost identical to the original post. According to my mother, the cherry rocker was acquired in WI between 1897 - 1915 and the other rocker (which is the OP interest) originated in Germany. My great-grandmother was Prussian, born 1860 and arrived in the U.S. 1887. The coils and 3-row decorate piece in the front is identical. I don't find any date, brand or marks on the chair; however, my mother did refinish it (according to her, the original stuffing was horse hair).
