About a month ago I bought this unkown microphone. The seller told me it looked like a "Trix" mic, but the photo of the "Trix" that he showed looked more like a Grampian that anything else. So I'm putting this up to see if anybody can help identify it. By the design and the materials used to make it, I would guess it's European. Inside, it has a huge magnet (bottom photo on the left), which makes the whole mic weigh 1,55kg (3.4 lbs). On the back of the magnet there's a clue that might help. It has "LS" (or "SL") engraved on it. I don't think they are initials of a past owner, since taking out the magnet was a bit difficult. Besides, people usually engrave on the outside body of the mic.

I usually don't like to mess around with the color or chroming of vintage mics, but since it came in such bad shape (see the top 2 photos on the left), I decided to have it chromed. I had a hard time sanding it down to take out most of the imperfections, but I think came out alright. Although I did question myself if it would look better if I painted the back part of the mic black, so it would look more like the original thing.

I like the "Mercedes Benz" front! Try contacting Mr. James U. Steele from the website http://www.k-bay106.com/photos.htm. He has a VERY extensive collection.
      Good Luck!

After a quick look at his site, I learned that unfortunately he passed away in november of last year. As a fellow collector, I was sad to hear about that.

It has been some time since I went to his site and missed that fact entirely. He will be missed by many.

Hi there, I was wondering did you ever find out an information based on this microphone? I have found a similar one, engrave SL also on its magnet with also the year 1945. I have been capable of making the microphone work just wish to know its brand.

Musicmad95, sorry for the huge delay in answering. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find any more info on the mic.
