As you may know, I like pre-WWII military toys. I also think depression era rubber toys deserve more attention. With that in mind, I present to you a very cool army transport made by Barr Rubber. Located in Sandusky Ohio, Barr Rubber made a relatively small number of toys, but I think their quality and detail is some of the best. I would have loved to see what they would have produced had their toy line not been so short lived. My reference book only lists 5(!!!) model vehicles by the company (all of which are 1935 vehicles). Maybe in the future I can find the others that they made.

Very solid casting/molding for the rubber, seems like it would have been very ridged even when it was new. The burlap "canvass" covering on the back is probably my favorite part; it really gives the toy some character. 4 3/4" long, a really lovely toy overall.

I added a picture of a farm truck that gives you a good idea of the inspiration for the toy.

Can a Doctor get a rubber category?

I found a grill, for the full sized truck, on an abandoned farm which the owner said I could keep. Had it for years. Just a memory I thought I'd share.

And what a neat memory it is! There is something really neat about the hardware hanging off the front of vehicles back then, they remind me of a fancy gilt picture frame that would be on fine art.
