He still has the original elastic cords that hold him together, hence he's a bit tired. Originally, Mr. Peanut came with a black wood cane, since broken or lost.

Story has it that when my mother was a young girl (early 1940's) her mother and dad went out for dinner and a movie and left my mom with a babysitter. Apparently Mom was not well and cried quite a bit as they were leaving for the night. Stopping by a Planter's peanut shop to get snacks for the movie, my grandmother saw this and bought it as a present for my Mom.

When my grandmother moved closer to our home, this was one of the thing that came from her old house in Terre Haute, Indiana. My mother remembered it well, and since I was the budding antique collector in the family, it went to me. Wisely so.

Wow! If I had Mr. Peanut, I'd be 5 or 6 yrs. old again. My sister and I shared the same toy back in the '40s, also. I used to like to stretch his arms and legs and see them snap back again, w/the elastic cords inside. Great toy, but we grew up, and he "went away". (Sigh!) I miss him. Hang onto that one.

Great story! :) I love little toys like this. I actually have a Popeye that's about 1" tall. I would love to show it but I can't seem to upload any photos, haven't got a clue why???
