trunkman

I was doing my normal classified scan when a saw a very poor picture of this trunk. I took a chance that it may be a Vanderman and drove for an hour. Luckily for me it turned out to be exactly that -- an 1897 Vanderman strongbox. Vanderman Manufacturing Co. Was established in 1878 by William Vanderman and was located in Willimantic CT. The company manufactured heavy steel tool chest used by railroads and construction trades. Some of the smaller chest were used by The Wells Fargo Express Co. and were used as boot boxes on stage coaches. This is the smallest example that I have yet to see. My dilemma is now -- do I restore it or leave it as is... An actual treasure chest!
That's a very nice dilemma to have!
