Just found this in my girlfriends grand parents attic. Have no idea of the value or material its made out of. I know its extremely heavy. Might be bronze.

I can't be certain because your photos don't show the entire clock. Could you add a photo or two to show the entire bottom case? It looks like a Seth Thomas' Sons & Co. Mantel Clock. The model was their "No. 8015" circa 1872. I could be wrong. Again, I would need to see more of the clock. The value depends upon the condition. If you don't mind me asking, is your girlfriend planning to hold on to her family heirloom or is she looking to sell it?

It would be best if you just posted an additional photo or two with this post. If I can't identify your clock, perhaps another collector can. Show the entire clock case from the front. Also, a closeup of the base might be helpful. This model may have been one of their 'Under Glass' clocks.

Okay, that's enough. Yes, it is a Seth Thomas' Sons & Co. No. 8015 as I thought.
They don't show up that often. In mint original condition they've been appraised by one authority at $900 in 2005. Your dial looks like it has hairline cracks and the finish looks pretty rough. If you were to try and sell it, and please don't try to do so on this website (selling is strickly against policy here), it would just depend on whether or not you could find the right collectors market. I saw on "Under Glass" version which was passed at auction with a starting bid of just $300. You just never know what an antique like this will sell for. Ultimately, it's worth what someone is willing to pay. I hope you guys decide to keep it. It's a beautiful old, valuable clock.

Hopefully this helps you. If so, please indicate your Mystery as "Solved".

Thanks for sharing your heirloom with the Collector's Weekly community.

      Regards,

      Bruce
