Loetz - Vertical application

This decor is Ausfuhrung 157 by Loetz Witwe (Loetz's Widow). It is typically seen with a tango base color, vertical threads and a thread to the top rim. Rare versions have a thread to top and bottom and even rarer pieces have no horizontal threads at all. They date from the same period as other application pieces but a few are signed "Powolny" as in famed Secessionist artists Michael Powolny. These signed pieces are thought to be the original design pieces from 1914. I suspect all pieces with this vertical threading are inspired by Powolny but not actually designed by him (unless signed). The most seen colors are orange with black. Some pieces have enamel flowers that run between the stripes. I suspect the pieces were made by using a cylindrical shaped base glass and rolling it evenly over equal-spaced glass rods laid out on a table. my second theory it that one artist held the base glass and another artists rolled the rods from lip-to-lip (Crossing at the pontil)... anyway they are great architectural pieces, Enjoy
