My husband got this box out of a house when he worked for a man that cleaned out foreclosures. We really have no idea how old it is but we love it and have had it displayed in every place we have lived in(we moved around a lot in our first years together). It used to be hinged but they had been broken before we got it. Somebody had told us once that it may have been some sort of birthday box? If we could get some info. on it that would be so great.

I would love to know about this box also. I have one just like it that was in my Grandmothers house. The inside is lined with wood pieces that are mitered together.

Lynda does your box have the same writing on the top or is it different?I was told that this was a birthday box by an antiques dealer and that the name would be different.Does yours have a dotted signature and i think date on the front bottom of the left side? thanks Mark

I think the two characters might be “long life” (shou) and “good fortune” (fu). A great present for anyone celebrating their birthday.
