A few more of the "ASTRA"S with some of the shield shapes.
These ovals also were used in making up brooches.
"This type of Ruskin style cabochon or medallion made by Minton & Hollins were described in the Pottery Gazette 1919, as "a series of medallions suitable for mounting as brooches". They are rounded on top & flat on the back & all of them are impressed "ASTRA". from an ebay ad for a pair
When I bought them a young friend who was doing a jewellery course offered to double the money I'd spent on them. He wanted to put them in metal cages. I decided that I needed them more than he.

      Many thanks AmberRose & scandinavian_pieces!
I suppose they look like fruit pastilles.
They came from Rozelle markets on a Saturday morning about a year ago.
It was an "instant collection". They were all in one of those tatty plastic bags that you get in the fruit & veg department.
There were two broken pieces in the bag unfortunately.
But 75 remained intact and another with a chip.
They were the collection of a woman who had died; her daughter was selling her effects. No one thought anything of them all together in the dull plastic bag. She wanted a dollar each for them and I offered her fifty for the lot!

      Hello Vet,
I love these. I collect similar small pieces when I come across them, bit of finials, tiny decorated tiles, loose gem stones ( faux:), glass marbles,.....always with the thought that I can incorporate them into something, a mosaic, a decorative egg painting,....something.
These are wonderful, colors and shapes,.... even the 'ASTRA' on the backsides is interesting.
      They have a certain magic.
