Lovely cabinet. If you clear the top of it and check the serial number of the machine you should be able to get a date :)

Did you happen to find the serial number? I have an identical machine (found locally in Tonawanda, so I'd assume the possiblity of coming from the same store?) This is the only one I've found on the net with the same cabinet, but I can't figure out where the serial number is.

EJW-54, what a great old machine! I have my grandmother's old Singer that was also used as a plant stand by my mother and ended up with water damage. What IS it with using these things for that!? *LOL* Great job on the cabinet, btw. Thanks for sharing your machine!

BuffaloNickels, I don't know exactly, but in case EJW-54 doesn't get back to you for a while, you can take a look for either a stamped number or a numbered tag somewhere on the machine. It could be on the outside or underneath.

chinablue - I did find a number stamped on the front of the machine, but everything I can find on White machines - it doesn't match up to the type of number they used. Mine says 81589 and for example. According to the warranty - his is 15 52 400 Most serial numbers I've seen have started with 15 or 17 and none of them are as short as mine? I've been trying to get through to Huskvarn - Viking to see if they can help but so far I either can't get through, or I get a wild goose chase.

I can't decide if I want to try and take the old laquer/varnish off of mine. I bought it to use, and taking it all apart is seriously going to delay my treadle time LOL but EJW-54's is so pretty. My laquer/varnish has clearly darkened so much from the original finish.

BuffaloNickels, can you either post a picture of yours or perhaps comment on something I have posted on here so we don't highjack this posting? That is kind of frowned upon. I have some links I can give you that may help. :-)

Of course. I'll try to get pictures of mine up tonight. Thank you chinablue!

Hello, I noticed your white sewing machine. I have one just like it but it is not in as good condition. The inside is nice but the wood stand is in poor condition and I was wondering if you could tell me how to refinish it? Also, can you tell me what this machine is worth?
    18. EJW-54 EJW-54, 12 years ago
Hi BornRebel, I used paint/varnish remover first then sanded lightly then cleaned and varnished it. these are not rare so value is not much, I think mine is maybe worth $300 or so.

Thanks trgrubaugh and ttomtucker, cool that you love this!

Hi, thank you for the restoration tips, they proved to be very useful! I noticed when I was reading about items you have collected that you collect Coca Cola items. I have a vintage Coca Cola metal folding chair that I would like to part with. If you would like to make me an offer on it I am sure we could reach an agreement. If so leave me an email at david makina83 @gmail.com and I will reply to give you my number.

This looks like mine. Only you have finished it nicely. What kind of varnish did you use?
    27. EJW-54 EJW-54, 10 years ago
Hi KateT, I used semi gloss polyurethane.

I have a 1909 Whites sewing machine in the portable travel style case. It's in
very good condition looks like it was barely used. It has beautiful gold disigns on
it. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what I could use to clean the surface
with. I don't want to ruin the paint. Also could anyone tell me what it's worth?

My husband just got me a A.G. Mason Rotary which as it turns out is a 1935 White Family Rotary. I would like to find parts for it but I am not sure where I need to go anybody have a suggestion. I did find out that Viking bought out White in 2009 and closed the company but they could not give me any other ideas.
