trunkman

Trunks and value are interesting for me. This is an example for me of what makes a trunk stand out. First thing I notice is the hardware. This one has big cast iron latches and cast iron corner fittings. Then I see what is extra on a trunk. Here above the lock is a finger lift piece. Then I see what makes a trunk stand out. The lock on this one is all brass -- also there are cast iron stays on the ends to keep the lid on. Also you will notice that there five oak slats across the top -- most always there are only four. What is also different about this trunk is the wood. It is actually constructed of cedar and not the usual pine. The trunk is heavy because the wood used is thick. Overall a quality trunk -- and fun to refinish. Actually the quality trunks are a lot easier to refinish -- even the canvas is of better quality and comes off easier. The last picture is my "before" shot.
Great restoration!
Not sure how I missed this one before. Beautiful!
