I found this at an auction a few years back, and thought I was getting an unknown manufacturer bullet. Of course as you can see, (no thanks to my blurry pics), it's a small trench art knife. Probably WW1, but I don't know as there are no marks on it. The headstamp contains 3 small dashes and no other marks unless they have been erased over the years.

      Nice item majestic.

Probably a letter opener. What size is it?

I have a large bunch of WW2 ammo with a lot of Jap ammo in 6.5 mm,& 7.7, they are all like yours with 3 marks that crimp the primer in. Yours looks like a 7.7Jap from WW2.

      Thanks everyone!
I doubt that this is a letter opener simply because of the size, it's only 2" long total and the blade is only 1 5/16" long. That doesn't rule out it being an opener. The blade is surprisingly sharp.
I've seen so0me 77Jap headstamps which resemble this but not quite right in small ways. Still, I just don't know.

The 3 point crimp is common on military ammo & add another step if reloading. If a primer were to blow. the gasses can come around the firing pin & possibly hit the firer in the face. All U.S. ammo I have seen have a more flat crimp instead of a round punch mark.
