I like to think of myself as a, coulda been a "Rock Scientist" contender type!! I found this specimen collection at a second hand store for .50 cents and it became my favorite possession immediately. I had to make it more durable, so I improvised a thick wooden beveled frame to keep it in one piece, as the paper is very old and fragile. I love rocks and I hope you do too!! Love to all and I've missed the wonderful collector's community, Michelle
I love rocks too :-) I remember having cards like this as a child . We would buy them at little roadside stores on way across USA every year . They are wonderful Michelle and it just took me back in time and a smile when I remembered the trips and the rocks . Wow thanks for sharing them :-)
Hey michelle, Very nice rock collection ! I remember going thru a rock phase myself ! Still have them put up somewhere, (I think). Glad to see you back, you've been missed here at C.W. Talk to you later TG
Your post rocks!!! Would love to have such a great reference.
These small specimens can be useful. They can be used to determine hardness in one mineral compared to another by scratching one mineral against the other.
This scratch test is known as the Mohs Hardness Test.
Thank you everybody, I have had serious house problems, namely the kitchen ceiling became the kitchen floor in the last storms. I have been at a friend's but unable to check in, I've missed you guys and gals here in the CW community!! Mich
Manikin,I'm so glad to take you back in time in a good reverie, and TG I've missed everyone and the great stories behind the relics of our lives!! Love you all, Mich
LOL, Gold Silver Platinum, White Gold Rose Gold Yellow Gold, yes, and can't forget the gemstones, amythests and opals, emeralds, saphires!!! oh what a speciman chart that would be!!! That would be a retirement Rock Art Speciman Collection!! Thank you, Mich
I love rocks as well, the strange part is that I don't have the warm fuzzy memories of childhood & buying them at a roadside stand. We just went out to the fields & spent countless hours picking them by hand & hauling them away.
Thanks for sharing Mich, hope your house is getting fixed, glad to have you back.
I am back from the brink!! What was recurringg growths in my stomach manifested as Malignant Stomach Cancer, which I am now supposedly totally free of, but after the last year, of remission followed by growths, remission, growths, I don't know for sure. I guess none of us ever do!! I have missed you all, Manikin, Thrifty Gypsy, walksoftly, it has been a difficult time and I missed my learned and inquisitive family of friends here in the CW community. I hope everyone is well, it is certainly a life changing experience just trying to keep up the fight when you feel terrible(nauseaus etc.)all the time, the Will to Live seems to seep out, and you really must ask yourself if this is going to be the furture, do I fight on, will I get better, I must admit, many timesI didn't think I would ever be back on CW or the computer, at all. I am one of those people pleaser types so when I was in trouble, I didn't tell anyone, just hermtted myself...that isn't the thing to do, but when you throw up(sorry), all the time, company is just not an option. It's been a long and scary year and it is so nice to reread your comments and know that I did make it back and I will try o post a few things when I can stand long enough!!! Missed you all terribly, Michelle
So nice to see you back Michelle, we missed you as well. It sounds like you have had a very difficult year, but you seem to have made it through. Best wishes on your recovery & look forward to future posts.
David
