I have this basket and I think it is from New England but it could be native. I inherited the basket from my father's estate, along with a bunch of other baskets. Please help me out with any information you may have about the basket so I can learn more about it. Thanks for your help.

New England. This is known as a Taconic or "Bushwacker" basket. It has the cross over weave for the rim and the "bump" in the middle. The Shaker community liked the style enough to buy them so they could copy them..lol. The last family to make these was Lizzie Proper, and she has since passed. She would 'size' up a person who wanted to buy one of her baskets and if she did not like you, you got no basket...haha. Very collectable.
