I never had barbies growing up so I cant identify them. They all but one are dated in the 60's. What is the purpose of that lever thing on the back? anyone know?

The lever is so barbie can lift and rock her baby she is the " Babysitter Barbie" or hold her Dog . It raises her arms . Mattel trademarks on Barbie dolls can be confusing because the trademark often reads "©1966/Mattel, Inc./U.S. Patented/U.S. Pat. Pend./Made in/Japan," even though the 1966 trademark appears on dolls that were manufactured right up until 1976
How to Identify real age of Barbie dolls goes as follows
Mattel© Barbie® and Friends: 1966 Trademarks and Dates
The main marking for Mattel’s Barbie & friends are located on the dolls buttock The date on the doll, is when the trademark was issued, not the year the doll was on the market. A modern Barbie who comes from the mid-1990?s she has a mark on her lower back/waist of: © MATTEL INC 1966
INDONESIA
. There are many more Barbie’s on the market in the 1980-1990?s that have 1966 in their marking. So take your 1966 Date + Add the Country Name: and see below for when she was Actually Produced:
Mattel Barbie & Family:
1959-1972 JAPAN, 1968-1970 MEXICO,
1970-1987 HONG KONG, 1970-1987 TAIWAN,
1973-1978 KOREA, 1978-1988 PHILIPPINES,
1986 to present CHINA, 1986 to present MALAYSIA,
1989-1990 MEXICO, 1992 to present INDONESIA.
All your Barbies are newer not made in 1966 . Go by name of Country on back I have provided with the date 1966 and it shows what year it was really made .
I hope this isn't to confusing but many people are perplexed by date and think they have a old barbie because of them keeping that date and not making new mold dates .
Manikin I deeply appreciate all of your help and passing some knowledge of these dolls on to me. Thank you so very much....
I believe the doll with the switch in the back is called Magic Moves Barbie from 1985. Barbie would hold beauty accessories like a small comb or brush or hair dryer and when you flipped the switch in her back, her arms would go up like she is brushing/combing her hair or blow drying it or something along that nature. She originally came with several beauty accessories.
The information about the trademark date that Manikin noted above is correct.
