This is a marble piece that came home nearly twenty five years ago from Vinnies. It has no signature that I can see. The trapezoidal base is of mahogany (?) with a felt cover over the area where the marble meets the base. I've never bothered to look underneath.
I suspect that it is a student's piece: an exercise on the work of Henry Moore? It is one of the objects I use to trial another piece when it arrives home. If it works in with this statue then I am usually happy. I think this is quite good. It works well from all angles. It has its own poise. I've seen the Thinker and the Venus of Wallendorf, knuckles, toil, and so on.....
A keeper, it cost me peanuts and has given me great pleasure for years.
Many thanks Bellin68 and inky too. G'day!
Agree with eye4 beauty...I see so many different things here. I see all mentioned plus a lady with some big hips...a woman with a baby...oh so much. Nice piece V!
Many thanks AmberRose & eye4beauty too!
Very Henry Moore-esque. Maybe the marble type could provide a clue about the country of origin?
Many thanks cogito, I think you're right. I'm hoping someone might be able to help out there.
The other inspiration for it might be Barbara Hepworth too; but there are no holes!
