My favorite old thing. This is full size wood propeller that (first spotted) was hidden back behind the furnace in the house that I grew up in. When I was down in the basement visiting my Dad as he worked in his wood shop area, I used to ask him about this and the pair of old wood skis that laid up against the wall next to it. He never had much to say other than it had been an expensive mistake and to please not bother my mother about it. This prop moved cross country with us, always tucked away somewhere wherever we landed. When I moved here to restore this house/home a decade ago my father gifted me with it and finally shared the story. It turns out that he had let his girlfriend (not my mother, an earlier love) land a borrowed plane once and at landing she reached over to give him a smooch, just goofing around. Dad tried quickly to correct the landing, but ouch, just a tip, and crack went the prop. This would have been in the mid 40s, just previous to his heading out with the Marines to Korea. He needed to replace the prop for the owner before going and evidently it was expensive as he only had a pt job. A true treasure to me - sorry mom!
Love it, love the story behind it, I've always wanted a wood prop to hang on my wall.
Thank you, walksoftly. Economic times are very tough for me right now, though this is the sort of thing I'd keep in my car with me if I ev
er ended up living in it. Some things a person just can't sell....to me this is a bond between father and daughter - and forever will be. Thank You for enjoying it along with me..
Did your father continue to fly?
