A nice antique zinc covered trunk. I picked this up this week and cleaned up the zinc and re-stained the oak slats. Zinc trunks are hard to come across as they were made for a short period of time between 1860's and 70's. The zinc patina comes out as a nice bluish grey tone. This trunk has high end features like an all brass lock, double corner pieces and beautiful clam shell clasps for the handles. The lock is from Keystone lockworks PA. dated Oct. 27th 1868. This is a wonderful addition to my collection of trunks. Hope you enjoy!

Hi trunkman, just got a trunk I thought was painted blue but now I am thinking it is zinc. How would you recommend I begin to clean it up? It is in pretty rough shape. I'll post it as soon as I find the cable for my camera. : )

Here is a quick test,,, put a magnet on it,,, if it does not stick it is most likely a zinc trunk... looking forward to the post...

A very unusual trunk. I like the contrast between the wood and the zinc.

That is truly amazing! I've yet to find a zinc coated trunk. Very nice find.

The seashell handle end caps are the most unusual ones I've ever seen!!

I just saw today a zinc covered trunk listed as a galvanized covered trunk -- most people who have them do not know they are zinc so you have to keep you eye well trained to pick them out -- always a little dull blueish hue to them...

Seacost finds -- see how similar this one is to yours! Use fine steel wood to rub down the zinc once the paint is removed...

I purchased a trunk today that looks very much like this one. It has the zinc finish to it, the seashell handles and the lock is from the same company, Keystone Lock Works in PA. I can't tell the date on it and the lock looks just a bit different. The inside also has an unusual print of a Victorian in 4 poses. Do you have any thoughts about this trunk?
