Charlie McCarthy and Edger Bergen were one of the top acts during the Golden Age of Radio. Their show dominated radio from 1937 to 1956. Every Sunday night they reach millions and millions of listeners. Edgar Bergen capitalized on his huge listening audience by merchandizing his two main characters, Charlie McCarthy and Mortimer Snerd, on everything from toy dolls, radios, games, cup, comics, rings, spoons and just about anything else that was produced at the time.
Today, we take for granite the merchandizing of television and movie characters but it was Edgar Bergen's Charlie McCarthy and Motrimer Snerd that were some of the first. Collecting Bergen and McCarthy memorabilia is fun because it's truly old, historic, and the were a huge variety of items produced. Many of these great collectables are very inexpensive to collect.

How much would a blackface Charly McCarthy doll be worth?

P.S. I think maybe spell check used the word "granite" when you meant granted in your article. Thought you might want to correct it...

I am trying to find information and the value of an item I have. It is a 4" x 2" rectanglur cardboard "box like" sleeve (open on each end) and containing 4 seperate books of matches comemorating the January 1, 1957 Tournament of Roses Parade hosted by Edger Bergen & Charlie McCarthy. Each matchcover has a black and white photo of Edger & Charlie on the front along with other advertising about the parade printed in red, black and green ink. The outer sleeve holding the actual matchbooks has a TV set outline with the screen cut out to allow one of the matchbook photos of Edgar and Charlie to be seen. Advertising on the sleeve is also printed in red, black and green. The condition is excellent with no discoloration or tears and only 1 match is missing from 1 matchbook! Any help information is appreciated. Thanks.
