This is a beautiful Longines 14K gold vintage man's wrist watch with matching Pontiac flex band. Based on the serial number ( 6456865) which is etched inside the back of the case, the watch was manufactured in 1942 or 1943 and has Swiss movements. The case is just under 1 inch square. The hours on the face are marked with red jewels (rubies or garnets) except for the quarter hours which are marked with diamonds except for the half hour which is marked with the second hand. It is a manual wind and does run. Based on the fact that I have searched the web extensively to locate this same watch and have not located a single one, this must be a rather rare/limited edition. Since the watch belonged to an uncle who passed away in 1970 it has not been worn for over 40 years but is in very good condition. I am considering selling the watch but would like to have an idea about its value before placing it for sale. I would appreciate any input that anyone had about this watch. Can you pop the back off and show us a picture of the movement and both sides of the back cover?
The number of jewels and the caliber (like a model no. for the movement, usually in a rectangle) will give you a more of what you need to ID and value the watch.
I did pop the back off when I first took the watch out of storage, and there are numbers there. I'll ask my daughter to get the best pictures she can, and I'll add them to the listing in a few days.
