I almost never buy silver overlay pieces. There is just too much that could go or be wrong with them. I make an exception when the pieces are pure Art Nouveau/ with a Seccessionist flair and only then when I can inspect it myself. The other issue I have is that when a Loetz Phänomen Genre piece has overlay, it ruins the beauty of the decoration of the glass FOR ME. This piece is perfect as its overlayed against a simple iridescent ground.
Underbidder on this one. Rare overlay design.
Just curious...are there any markings on the bottom? Polished pontil, I would guess?
Its my understanding that marked pieces are quite rare. This is not marked. It does have a polished pontil.
Most of the early pieces were marked, but later ones weren't typically. I suspect your example is from the same design "family" or production period as my two silver & cabochon Poschinger examples. Neither of those are marked either.
