A considerable step beyond tinting, and one of those painted tintypes in which the embellishment is far more extraordinary than the sitter. A Full-Size plate, 6.5" x 8.5 and found in one of those ungodly wooden fat frames which is now in the basement.
Untitled (Woman with Painted Gold Glasses) circa 1880 Ferrotype Tintype Photograph Collection Jim Linderman/ Dull Tool Dim Bulb
Nice one, Jim. Looks like my own great granny!
I have 2 full-plate painted tintypes on my page. They're of men though, very nice!
very nice -- very interesting -- perhaps it is the artist -- wonder if the artist was male or female --
This sounds somewhat like what I am trying to research. - Need a little help here. I found a 10 1/2" thin steel plate stuck between a picture and the wooden backing of a frame I was taking apart. The portrait of a woman 3/4 view and is tinted and the brooch is decorated in gold. The figure is glossy and only the brooch and white trim on collar appear to be hand painted. The area behind her is grey, matt and a little rough. Is this what I have? a Ferro type tintype, or something else and when were these made?
