I love the Tsaikka tea glasses that I picked up in a market in Kings Cross a year ago. It seems they were originally part of a drinks set designed by Timo S in 1957. The cups were then part of a set of jug & glasses set. It was one of the first design in the i-series for iittala of Finland. There is a picture of this set in Eileene Harrison Beer’s Scandinavian Design oppose page 103. That jug is very hard to find! Austrohungaro has a Kartio version of this design and some others by lindshammar that look like it too:

    http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/48614-jug-gunnar-ander-lindshammar-1950s?in=user

The glasses were then later (in 1964) given a metal holder with a distinctive figure - eight handle. I think this was designed by Timo's brother Pentti, but I am not sure about that. Perhaps austro will know for sure?

I like the stackable nature of the holders design as well. It's based on a very clever little part of the pressed metal design.

The name 'tsaikka' comes from the Russian word for tea: "tsai". I think most of us have seen the Russian tea glasses with pewter/silver handles.
They are used at Xmas time in Finland to drink mulled-wine as well add tea.
Timo "Sarpaneva (1926–2006) was one of the great personalities responsible for the world reputation of Finnish design since the 1950s. He was a master of materials as glass, porcelain, cast iron and textile as well as graphic art. Timo Sarpaneva designed the current Iittala trademark for his glass collection called I-line (I-linja) in 1956, for which he received one of his Grand Prix in Milan the following year. He has been honoured with innumerable awards and acknowledgements. Sarpaneva was Doctor HC of the Royal College of Art in London and the University of Art and Design in Helsinki and Academician HC of the University of Mexico. His work can be seen in art and design museums throughout the world."

I have always loved these Tsaikka glasses but never got them (even if I found them last year in Portugal for a very nice price).

I wish I could see tha jug you mention. So far the only thing ressembling the shape of the Tsaikka glasses is the purple bottle in this set: http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/40273-bottles-and-jug-from-the-i-lasi-series?in=user

As for the metal holders they do resemble the work of Pentti Sarpaneva, but so far there's nothing to prove it. By the way, here is a picture of two tsaikka glasses designed by both Timo and Pentti: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=313123268740609&set=a.268853029834300.74931.100001288167926&type=3&theater

By the way, I have seen Tsaikka glasses with both silver and golden metal holders, as well as bigger ones with two handles - I guess they'll be broath cups- (http://www.laatutavara.com/images/9707.jpg), candle-holders (http://www.laatutavara.com/images/10256.jpg), serving platters (http://www.laatutavara.com/images/3821.jpg) and something that looks like an oil lamp. As for colours, they come in clear glass, purple and blue.

Thanks for the comment Austro. I love the knuckle-duster version handles by Pentti. The illustration of the jug I refer to in the Eileene Harrison Beer’s Scandinavian Design is exactly the same design as the Kartio jug. It may be that she made a mistake thinking it was a 'Timo' jug. It is not the bottle you mention: I have had two of them on CW.
I have some glasses that I will post that have a question for you as well.
      Many thanks again!

Already looking forward to seeing those glasses!
