Terra cotta tile with Rennie Mackintosh style Glasgow rose in yellow and symmetric green color foliage in a thick translucent glaze. Stamped “England” on the reverse. Matching pair of this tile installed in oak framed mirror with matching electric sconces with green leaded glass lantern shades by Robert Bennett (cabinet maker). Tile dimensions: 6"(H) x 6"(W) x 0.36"(T).
The Henry Richards Tile Co. Ltd. (1903-1931) transferred to the Pinnox Works in Tunstall in 1903, during which "..the manufacture of general earthenware was abandoned, and the new plant was devoted exclusively to the production of tiles until 1925.”
LOVE IT. LOVE IT. LOVE IT.
Thanks, Bellin. We were lucky to find a cabinet maker who was crazy enough to share our vision to build up a piece of furniture around the tiles, as opposed to the other way around!
The Tiles Look very Mintons Succession Ware
Hi, Oz. Same sort of squeeze bag technique with thick crystalline glazes...apparently this was the British taste at the time.
That is one of the most attractive Art Nouveau tiles I have seen.
